5 Ways to Build Your Presence on the Internet

By: Jinger Jarrett

Branding. It is probably one of the most effective, yet least understood, techniques for building your presence on the internet.

By branding yourself as an expert on your topic, you can easily increase your traffic to your site, as well as sales. By drawing potential

customers to you, you'll decrease your marketing time while still increasing your sales.

Traffic you receive by branding yourself is targeted traffic. The traffic is targeted because visitors are looking for what you have to offer.

Your first step in branding yourself should be to choose the right keywords. By choosing the right keywords, you can optimize your site for

the search engines so others find you. This will also help you organize your information better to create products and services that reflect

your area of expertise.

Once you have optimized your website for the search engines, you need to submit it to the major search engines. With Google, you'll want to

create a site map. A sitemap can help you get your site spidered quickly, usually within 24 hours.

Submit your site to the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN, then move on. Next, you need to work on branding yourself.

Here are four other ways you can build your brand and establish yourself as an expert:

1. Write articles
This is the most important step. You're getting your name out there. Before sending out articles though, make sure you understand how to

write good articles. Otherwise, your articles won't get accepted, much less read.

2. Write books and Ebooks
Sites like Lulu, http://www.lulu.com, make it easier than ever for you to get your manuscripts published quickly. Many big name writers

have used self publishing to get their names out there. You can too.

Lulu will make it easy for you to offer your manuscript in both digital and print format.

3. Build links back to your site
Find both general and specific directories to submit your site to. Add your link, or exchange links of linking is offered.

Don't waste your time on sites that don't have a links page. They probably don't use linking to build traffic, and you'll be ignored.

4. Participate in forums
Find two to three good forums on your topic and participate. Ask questions, answer them, and always include a link to your website.

Be careful here though; you don't want to spend too much time marketing on forums. If you do, it will take time away from product creation,

as well as your other marketing techniques.

The first step in building your business should be in building your brand. By building your business and building your brand, you'll get more

traffic and more targeted traffic. This will increase your conversion.
